Innovative model

Image
As a part of our B.Ed curriculum, we are expected to prepare an innovative work. So I have the topic phrasal verbs about which I have prepared an innovative model in order to familiarize it with the students. Phrasal verbs are a group of words that function as a verb and is made up of a verb and a preposition. Phrasal verb is a vast topic so I have chosen some commonly used ones in my work. Phrasal verbs that begin with 'take', 'get', 'turn' and 'put' are introduced. They're given along with their meanings and presented in the form of a small woodland. The biggest challenge any teacher faces is capturing the student's attention and putting across ideas in such a way that it stays with them long after they have left the classroom. For this to happen classroom experience should be redefined and innovative ideas should be implemented.

Week 9 (07-08-2023 - 08-08-2023)           This week comprised of our last two days in the school. After the diagnostic test remedial teaching were given to students. We spent the last day to meet up with the Headmaster, Royston sir, teachers and other staff and say our goodbyes. Everyone wished us luck for our future and gave us valuable advice that would help us achieve our dream of becoming a future teacher. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to this school which taught us so much. I learned how to be a good teacher, how to understand my students and help them be the best version of themselves here. I learned that it is not just knowledge but patience and perseverance that makes a great teacher. Kristraj will always hold a special place in my heart as the first step that gave me the right guidance for a very long journey.

Week 7 (24/07/23-29/07/23)               The very first day of this week started with the school Merit day programme honouring the students who scored full A+winners for SSLC and Plus Two last year. The programme was inaugrated by the Local Manager of the school Fr. Xavier Laazar and Education Secretary of the diocese Fr. Binu Thomas. The classes went on as usual. I completed two more lessons - a poem, Marvellous Travel and a story, A Shipwrecked Sailor.  Week 6 (19/07/23-22/07/23)                    This week was a considerably short one. The first 2 days of the week were holidays. Monday was 'karkidaka vaavu', so it was a public holiday. And Tuesday was a holiday due to the sad demise of our former Chief Minister Sri.Oomen Chaandy. From Wednesday onwards I continued with a new chapter, a poem titled From a Railway Carriage. I also had my first class observation this Wednesday where my class was assessed by my tutor Fr Joseph John. He gave valuable feedback on my teaching techniques and I was satisfied with the remarks I got. The most enthusiastic event of the week was that the school celebrated its sports day on the 21st and the 22nd.                    Various sports events were conducted in the school ground like the running race (50m,100m,200metc....), long jump, high jump, shotput, discus throw, relay etc. Sports day was conduc...

Week 5

Week 5 (10/07/23-14/07/23)          This was the fifth week of our teaching practice and the students were having their first mid term evaluated this week. The question pattern was quite unfamiliar to the students as they had never tried comprehension questions based on passages before. Before conducting the exam itself,  I provided the students with a mock test based on previous year questions. The mid terminal evaluation was conducted on Friday for a duration of 30 minutes amounting to 20 marks. The students were cooperative and maintained discipline throughout the duration of the exam.

Week 4

Week 4 (03/07/23-07/07/23) This week I taught them a Japanese folktale titled The Boy who Drew Cats. It was quite interesting to  the students as they got to learn new terminology. I made sure to link these with real life examples from popular culture that would help to familiarize the students with the new concepts. I changed completely into ICT based classes because I found that students are more attentive and excited to learn through this method. It also makes teaching and learning much more easier and interesting. Students can copy down the important points and vocabulary at the time of teaching itself. Students are more active in the classroom and does well in revision sessions with the use of ICT based teaching aids.

Week 3 (26/06/23-01/07/23)                As I entered the third week of the teaching practice,  I was managing the task of completing my lesson plans quite well. I finished the poem Taj Mahal and also began the next lesson We are the World, originally a song for for charity, composed by Micheal Jackson and Lionel Richie Jr. I played the original recording video of the song in the class and this captured the attention of the students very much. In this week 2 days (wednesday and thursday) were declared holiday due to Bakrid. As the 3rd week is being over, I feel like I have made considerable improvements in strategies I use in my classroom.

Week 2

Week 2 (19/06/23-22/06/23)          In this week, I started off with some more grammar elements like singular and plural,  noun phrases and letter writing. The new lesson to be introduced this week was the poem Taj Mahal by Rabindranath Tagore. I showed a brief documentary on Taj Mahal using the projector and noticed that the students were more attentive and active while using audio visual aids. As June 21 was celebrated as world yoga day, there was a brief program in which students were given awareness about the prominence of practicing yoga. Students with yoga mat were asked to participate in yoga done in school ground,co-ordinated by physical education teachers of the school.
